EDC Japan 2019 has announced its timetable.

Japanese festivals always seem to announce timetables at the last minute, haha, but many of you can now plan your schedules.

This time, based on the timetable, I will share “a different way to enjoy it,” with plenty of personal opinion.

Arrive Early

Headliners (big-name, popular acts) are often concentrated toward the end.

So quite a few people arrive late, but without mincing words, I think that is pretty lame, haha.

Arriving early lets you enjoy a drink in the sea breeze and, above all, discover new sounds and DJs you previously did not know well.

If you only want to see headliners, there is no need to come all the way to the venue: accessing YouTube in your room is best.

Do Not Follow Your Schedule

It is fine to choose your must-see acts and plan a schedule, but sometimes I think you should break it.

  • That stage looks more fun
  • The sound I like is over there, but the atmosphere is better here
  • I planned to move when the time came, but this DJ was so good I stayed longer

There is no need to be bound by rules.

Go Your Own Way

Likewise, there is no need to be bound by rules.

This is not a school field trip; it is ridiculous to restrict what you do out of concern for everyone else's reactions.

Even with companions or friends, there is no need to stay at or move to a stage that does not appeal to you.

I really like doing things alone and no longer arrange to meet anyone when going to events.

If you want to socialize, just talk to someone nearby.

Visit Less Crowded Stages

The places “no one is watching yet, where things are about to take off” hide great undiscovered value—that is a fact.

In my past articles about EDC Japan 2019, I have consistently recommended acts at the NEO GARDEN stage, and it is precisely the NEO GARDEN acts that will make a big impact in the 2020s.

Indeed, as of May 2019, PEGGY GOU's latest track is number one on the Beaport chart.

The appeal of dance music culture is being “cutting-edge,” so looking toward up-and-coming things rather than established ones is far more exciting.

Do Not Drink Alcohol

Alcohol often makes us fall into our usual habits out of inertia.

You could say, “As long as it is fun!” or “Alcohol is part of the enjoyment,” but I want the unique value of experiences that arise precisely from a festival setting and dance music.

If alcohol enhances that, I understand, but if you are just going to turn the festival venue into a giant izakaya, a neighborhood izakaya, karaoke place, pub, or bar is better value, haha.
