About the Author
EMI515|DJ Emi-nee︎
EMI515 (known as “DJ Emi-nee︎” on DJ streams aimed at Japanese audiences, such as TikTok).
Originally from Tokyo. During high school and university (Nihon University College of Art), she became deeply interested in rock music and played bass and guitar in bands. She was later captivated by dance music from Europe and began DJing after experiencing parties at clubs such as The END, fabric, and Ministry Of Sound in the UK, and Space, Amnesia, and Pacha on Ibiza.
She made her DJ debut under the name Assy in June 2006 at Paolo Mojo’s Japan appearance at WAREHOUSE in Azabu-Juban. Her playing style smoothly mixes across Techno, all styles of House, Progressive, Trance, and more.
In 2013, she changed her name to ACIDE, playing all styles of EDM, Trance, and Progressive House. She has performed at venues throughout Tokyo, including ageHa, AIR in Daikanyama, SOUNDMUSEUM VISION, ASIA, WOMB, amate-raxi (now Circus Tokyo), and SIX TOKYO. She has frequently appeared at events featuring international DJs visiting Japan, supporting Aly&Fila, Protoculture, RAM, Thomas Newson, TJR, and many others.
In 2017, she launched the official ACIDE website, the predecessor to this site. After living abroad as a nomad from 2019 to 2023, mainly in Southeast Asia, she has been based in Osaka City since 2023. In 2024, she began to see possibilities in DJing through livestreams.
In 2023, after years of struggling with GID (gender identity disorder), she decided to live as a woman and came out. She also changed her DJ name to “︎EMI515|DJ Emi-nee” and shifted to a style centered on Melodic Techno, Tech House, Hard Techno, and Tech Trance.
She resumed publishing information on this site in 2025. Drawing on around 20 years of knowledge of scenes, festivals, and DJs in Japan and abroad, she shares information online to help as many people as possible discover authentic dance music, DJs, and festivals.
DJs who have influenced her include Laurent Garneir, John Digweed, Armin Van Buuren, Eric Prydz, Joris Voorn, and many others.
