Day 5 (October 21), the final day of ADE.

At midday I went to the free event “ADE Hangover”; in the evening, the rapidly rising “Elrow goes to ADE”; and at night, “Gem x Loveland ADE Closing”.

ADE Day 5 Begins!

ADE Hangover

The venue was the place I visited on Day 3 for “DGTL x Paradise Records”: NDSM.
It looks different again when you come during the day.

The vibe was something like the various themed festivals held in Tokyo's Yoyogi Park.

I thought it would be fun to relax outside over food and drinks, but unfortunately it rained throughout. It might be fun on a sunny day with a group of around four people.

I did not photograph it, but some people were soaking in the bathtubs provided because it was cold.

I relaxed with the friend I came with, drinking beer and digging through secondhand records.

Of course, this was ADE, so there was music too: House Music and Rock Music played by bands.

Elrow goes to ADE

In the evening, it was on to the much-talked-about “Elrow goes to ADE.”

An outlandish event originating in Spain, combining a unique world and production with Techno and Tech House. It was one of the things I absolutely wanted to experience on this trip.

I could not capture it in photos or video, but Elrow's famous confetti was simply spectacular.

Performers included Paco Osuna, Eats Everything, Michel de Hey, Park & Sons and others.
There were two floors, a main and a secondary one.

The venue was STRAF_WERK.
Apparently Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound was also held there on another day.

“Seeing is believing” sums up Elrow's world perfectly.

Incidentally, in Asia, it apparently also appeared at the Indonesian festival DWP(Djakarta Warehouse Project 2017), although it seems the reduced scale compared with Europe and America was hard to ignore.

That suggests, unfortunately, it will be quite a while before it comes to Japan, and even if it does, we probably cannot expect much in terms of quality…

I would love to experience Elrow in Barcelona or Ibiza in Spain, or London in the UK, too!

Incidentally, in September 2018 it will apparently return to Amsterdam's NDSM, introduced near the beginning of this article. Amazing, haha.

Gem x Loveland ADE Closing

This was the final event in five days of immersing myself in ADE events.

It was a collaboration between the Netherlands' proud techno festival LOVELAND and (probably little known in Japan) Secret Cinema's gem records.

There were three floors—like an ant colony, all packed!—and a flawless lineup ranging from familiar names popular in Japan such as Christian Smith, Matador, and Pig&Dan to Extrawelt, Dominik Eulberg,  Gaiser, minimal acts from the Fabric generation, or ones I often listened to ten years ago, and Mathias Kaden and Daniel Stefanik, whose popularity is surging again.

Personally, Secret Cinema B2B Paul Ritch, Enrico Sangiuliano B2B Luigi Madonna were frighteningly good!

It was packed, but thinking about it, this was late on a Sunday night.
Even as morning approached, the number of people dramatically…
According to a friend living in the Netherlands who joined me there, everyone parties properly until morning and still goes to work properly the next day.

Reflecting on ADE, in Japan I had thought, “In the Netherlands, dance music blends into everyday life,” and people around me used that expression too. But I felt that “dance music occupies an important place within Dutch people's lives.”

Meanwhile, at the same time, Gashouder was hosting Ben Klock's “Awakenings x Klockworks present Photon,” which apparently was packed too.
The popularity of techno in the Netherlands is truly incredible!
