The 300th live edition of ABGT (Above & Beyond Group Therapy), hosted by Above & Beyond and widely supported by Trance fans as well as Progressive House and Deep House fans, took place in Hong Kong on September 29–30.

In this article, I report on Day 2's Anjunadeep Open Air Hong Kong.
(For Day 1's ABGT300, see below.)

Lineup

I covered it in the Day 1 report too, but let's go over the lineup again.

The acts I wanted to see were Luttrell and James Grant & Jody Winternoff.

Incidentally, Ben Böhmer also appeared at Day 1's ABGT300, which shows how high the expectations for him are.

The Venue: West Kowloon Nursery Park

The venue was West Kowloon Nursery Park, a short walk from Kowloon Station.
Finding the way there might be a little difficult.

There was quite a queue before opening again today.
For some reason, showing a passport was not required today.

It was a medium-sized park with spaces to relax and free water available, making it a pleasant setting.

The Atmosphere at the Venue

It was striking how different the venue looked by day and by night.

And then, the ending.

Tony's announcement, “Whatever country you live in, when we gather here, we're all Anjunafamily!” left an impression on me. Among the many forms of dance music, Trance and Anjuna music have a particularly strong sense of community.

Two Days That Showed Me the Breadth and Depth of the Music

This is just my personal taste, but lately I had become less comfortable with Uplifting, Tech Trance, and Trance that is all about euphoria, both when DJing and when listening.

The main reasons were that, looking at it afresh, I sometimes felt it was rather overblown, and as I got older the harder sounds had become tiring for my ears and body.

So I returned to House, Techno, and Tech House and drifted away from Trance, but I still listen to Anjunabeats as before and find it exciting.

Of course, Anjunadeep is highly compatible with House, Techno, Deep House, and Tech House. Such a finely balanced position is rare.

Their sound is also becoming something of a legacy style, so perhaps Above&Beyond, Anjunabeats, and Anjunadeep possess a unique niche identity like Eric Prydz and Pryda.

Kowloon's Beautiful High-Rises After the Event

Other Notes

Perhaps because it was a hot outdoor event, a few of the drinks were chilled, haha.
The food was disappointing again, too.

It seems best not to expect much in these areas in Hong Kong, haha.
