Among its events, Ultra Miami, familiar to Japanese audiences, was scheduled for March 20–22, but it appears to have been cancelled due to the novel coronavirus.
Details on the news surrounding the cancellation of @Ultra in the wake of growing #Coronavirus concerns can be found inside. #UMF2020 #UltraMiamihttps://t.co/wkDUFF4LF4

Well, Los Angeles has declared a state of emergency, and Trump is taking a stance of restricting travelers (including Japan), so there is every possibility that Miami Music Week itself could be cancelled.
Big Festivals May Shrink in the Future...
The coronavirus's impact looks likely to continue for some time, and until a cure is found, many people will probably feel they cannot let their guard down.
And people may begin to avoid dance music festivals, where large numbers of strangers gather and close contact is often common.
Beyond Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland, which draws one of the world's largest festival crowds, will probably struggle to take place without problems this year.
Come to think of it, it is already March, but I have not heard news of Ultra Japan 2020 or EDC JAPAN 2020 taking place. That too may be one sign of big festivals shrinking.
Small Parties and Use of Next-Generation Technology
So there is every possibility that the form of dance music festivals will change in the coming era.
- Small community-based parties (like offline events for online communities)
- New musical experiences using next-generation technology
Perhaps dance music will move in directions like these.
I have touched on this in previous articles, but AR, VR, and MR deserve particular attention.

I will say it again: when DJing in VR becomes possible, I would like to return to DJing seriously myself.
I would even like to build a platform where you can DJ in VR, haha.
