May, when the new era name begins, is just around the corner: truly the dawn of a new age.
In dance music too, “sounds popular in Heisei” and “sounds like 2010” will become things of the past, and more new sounds should arrive.
The keywords are of course Techno, House, and Tech House.
An extra-long holiday, a “Hello Summer” atmosphere, and feel-good sounds at the forefront of the times: with all three, you will definitely want to head out.
So I will cover notable events in Tokyo in May 2019, “the first month of Reiwa's first year,” with plenty of personal opinion.
Saturday, May 2: King of New York – Danny Krivit Japan Tour 2019 – at Contact Tokyo
Familiar from Body&Soul Japan, the living legend of classic House music DANNY KRAVIT comes to Japan.
Around the world now, Defacted and Glitterbox and other classic House events are booming, with Glitterbox running regularly at London's Ministry of Sound and Ibiza's Hï Ibiza.
Body&Soul Japan will no longer be just a gathering of married House fans who can no longer go out late at night (sorry), and young, well-informed people with good taste will start flowing in.
Saturday, May 4: Efdemin “New Atlantis” Release Tour at Contact Tokyo
The German visionary pursuing the ultimate deep sound, Efdemin, also known as Phillip Sollmann, appears.
If my memory is correct, Efdemin has been visiting Japan since the days when Nishi-Azabu had Space Lab Yellow.
He has enjoyed tremendous support from dance-floor veterans who have traveled long and deep through dance music.
This uniquely trippy sound is worth experiencing at least once!
Friday, May 10: ALIVE feat. PAUL RITCH & GALLYA @ Sound Museum Vison Tokyo
Recently, the return to Techno and House has felt great at Sound Museum Vision, where PAUL RITCH and GALLYA will appear.
I saw PAUL RITCH play at ADE (B2B with Secret Cinema), and in contrast with his level of recognition in Japan, he is popular in Europe.
GALLYA also plays some great dark, thumping Techno.
Saturday, May 11–Sunday, May 12: EDC Japan at Makuhari
EDC Japan is a big outdoor festival near the sea, so a fun time is assured.
The daily schedule is out, and many people have probably already decided to go, but for enjoying it differently in this new era, I strongly recommend skipping all EDM stages and acts.
Personally, the reliably good JOSH WINK, along with WAFF, Peggy Gou, and BONTAN would be my recommendations.
I wrote the details in this article.

Friday, May 17: Mind Against at VENT
Ranked alongside Tale of Us and PanPot, the popular Italian-born Techno duo Mind Against appears at VENT.
I experienced them at WOMB in 2016 and ADE in 2017: deep, dope, progressive, endlessly versatile, and incredibly cool.
