[May 2020] Seven Online DJ Sets I Enjoyed Recently [Time at Home]

With the novel coronavirus still showing no sign of subsiding, clubs and festivals around the world have been canceled across the board. Huge numbers of live sets are being uploaded online.

Japan's state of emergency has been extended to the end of May, but here are some outstanding DJ sets to enjoy while staying home and avoiding outings.

Life under restrictions continues, but let's watch these and look forward to the moment we can enjoy dance music in person again.

Gorge (Streamed May 3, 2020)

A livestream from Gorge, the head of Germany's quality tech and deep house label 8bit.

I experienced an 8bit event at ADE 2017; looking back now, it was a precious experience.

Exclusive Live DJ Mix – Music from Abstract Architecture, A_A and Yoyakuza

When it comes to global DJs and producers Japan can truly be proud of, it has to be the great Satoshi Tomiie.

Alongside Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, he is recognized internationally as a founding figure of house music, yet today's Japanese audience barely knows him. I hope this is an opportunity to get to know him.

He also appeared on Ultra Japan's Resistance stage five years ago. That stage was pretty empty that year, though, haha.

Joris Voorn – 3 Decks No FX – Vinyl Set at Marktkantine Amsterdam

A reliably excellent audience-free live set from Joris Voorn.

Joris Voorn is one of Awakenings' leading headliners. His popularity was set to surge again in the 2020s and make him busier than ever, but let's look forward to the day we can see him in action in person somewhere.

↓The vinyl set is very good too.

Eli & Fur DJ set @ ReConnect | Beatport Live

The home set from Eli & Fur, the deep house duo active on Anjunadeep and elsewhere, is wonderful as expected.

However, perhaps to maintain social distancing during COVID, only Eli (Eliza Noble) is playing. Let's look forward to when B2B performances are permitted again.

Adam Beyer b2b Cirez D @ Creamfields 2019 (HQ Audio & Video)

This is unofficial and an older video, but I picked it because it was good.

Adam Beyer is in demand worldwide, while Cirez D, aka Eric Prydz, dislikes flying, so neither was someone we could hope would visit Japan. Still, someday I would love to immerse myself in that grand atmosphere somewhere in the world.

Felicie DJ set – Soma Sessions | @Beatport Live

A set by Felicie, a hard techno DJ associated with a long-established UK techno label. Somewhat brutal hard techno is gaining momentum again too.

Recommended for fans of Ellen Allien, Amelie Lens, and Charlotte de Witte, as well as uplifting trance fans.
